Brighton and Hassocks

Counsellor and Psychotherapist

BA (Hons), Dip SW, PGDip, MSc, MBACP, UPCA

I have over 16 years experience working with children and adults, couples and families in a wide range of related roles, within the helping professions.

I work therapeutically with issues of low self-esteem, anxiety, stress, loss, depression, sexuality, trauma, difficult life experiences, addictions, familial and life transitions, eating difficulties and relationship problems.

As a Humanistic therapist, I will offer you a safe therapeutic space, where you can feel accepted as you are. I will listen and work supportively alongside you, while you examine your thoughts and feelings about what is going on in your life, how it is affecting you and how you want your life to be.

I draw from Person-Centred, Gestalt, Transactional Analysis, Existential and Systemic models within my practice and sometimes incorporate the use of creative materials and objects within my therapeutic work, to help explore thoughts, feelings and relational dynamics.

I am a BACP accredited and UKCP registered integrative psychotherapist. My initial training within the humanistic framework continues to inform and influence my therapeutic style alongside the experiences from my earlier background in psychological services. From this stance I understand that everyone has their own unique and personal journey to make and I am committed to providing a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space in which you can examine those difficulties and dilemmas currently impacting upon you. Some of the themes that emerge may already be familiar whilst others may feel more unfamiliar and unknown. In this way the therapeutic relationship can provide a reflective space in which these themes can be explored providing the opportunity to bring about significant emotional and behavioural changes.

More recently my work includes the use of EMDR, which can be a very effective way of helping to promote recovery from a variety of life’s difficulties, particularly those brought about through early psychological problems, trauma or later single adverse life events. EMDR can make a real difference where there has been an impact on your ability to cope with aspects of the present day.

Difficulties that present themselves in our day-to-day living are so often signposting us to unresolved or stuck issues from our past and my aim is to offer you a space to think and reflect differently on those events and memories from the past that may be impacting on both present day living and contributing to your expectations of the future, inviting you to engage in the process of finding a new way to live.

I undertake both short and longer-term therapy working from consulting rooms at Queens Place in Central Brighton and on Church Road in Hove. For more info click here.
